About LabDrop

Built for students, researchers, and engineers who need clean, hassle-free file transfers without digital footprints.

The Origin Story: Why We Built LabDrop

Every student in computer science, electronics, mechanical, or civil engineering knows the universal frustration of the college laboratory session. You spend three hours coding algorithms, designing circuits, or analyzing datasets on a lab PC. Then the final bell rings, and you need to get your code and output files onto your phone or laptop.

In most educational institutions, this becomes a stressful hurdle:

  • Restricted USB Ports: Flash drives are either disabled by IT administrators to prevent malware spread, or students simply don't carry them.
  • Account Security Vulnerabilities: Logging into your personal Gmail, Google Drive, or WhatsApp Web on a public lab workstation is dangerous. Countless students accidentally stay logged in, exposing personal messages, browser history, and sensitive credentials to the next student batch.
  • Restricted Cloud Access: Many campus networks block third-party file locker sites or require complex enterprise VPN authorizations.

LabDrop was created to solve this exact problem cleanly and securely.

How LabDrop Works

LabDrop eliminates all unnecessary friction. You don't need to create an account, enter a phone number, or install native apps.

1. Drag & Drop

Drop your code scripts (C, Python, Java), documents, PDFs, or diagrams directly onto the LabDrop workbench on the lab PC.

2. Instant QR Code

LabDrop immediately generates a unique, real-time QR code and a 4-digit numeric code with optional PIN protection.

3. Download to Mobile

Scan with your phone camera or enter the digits to download individual files or a consolidated ZIP archive directly to your mobile device.

4. Auto-Purged in 30m

Once transferred, files automatically self-destruct after 30 minutes. Zero leftover files on the lab PC, zero permanent traces in the cloud.

Key Capabilities & Technical Highlights

  • Generous File Capacity: Up to 250 MB per file and 1 GB total transfer size across up to 30 files in a single batch.
  • Direct Cloud Streaming: Direct S3-compatible cloud storage streaming delivers high download and upload speeds even on congested university Wi-Fi networks.
  • Malware Defense: Dangerous executable extensions (.exe, .bat, .cmd, .msi, .vbs) are blocked server-side to keep student devices completely safe.
  • Optional 7-Day Cloud Storage: If you cannot use your phone during class, sign in to save your session for up to 7 days.
  • AI Viva & Exam Prep: Integrated academic assistant providing viva drill questions, code explanations, and concept summaries directly from your transferred code.
  • Progressive Web App (PWA): Can be added directly to your smartphone home screen or desktop with full Web Share Target support.
